Trek Talk: Virginia Triple Crown
Think you need a passport to chase adventure? Think again.
Join us for a special Trek Talk featuring Don and Morgan as they dive into their recent hike of the Virginia Triple Crown—a rugged, iconic loop right here in our own backyard. With views from Dragon’s Tooth, McAfee Knob, and Tinker Cliffs, this trek is a rite of passage for local adventurers… and possibly a test of friendship when your trail partner is your total opposite.
Don (the meticulous planner and seasoned trekker) and Morgan (the spontaneous wildcard) will walk you through how they prepped, what they packed (and wish they hadn’t), and the trail highs and lows that tested both their gear and their patience.
Expect helpful tips, local trail knowledge, and plenty of laughs as this duo brings the beauty and chaos of the Virginia Triple Crown to life.
Perfect for: curious beginners, weekend warriors, and anyone looking to explore the best trails Virginia has to offer—no passport required.
🎟 Free to attend! Just bring your curiosity and your sense of humor.

July 24th: 6PM at City Docks
Paddle and Paint
A Creative Evening on the River
City Dock, 207 Sophia Street
Launch at 6:00 PM — please arrive early to prepare your gear
Join us for an inspiring evening that blends paddling, photography, and plein air painting on the beautiful Rappahannock River. We’ll kick off our adventure at City Dock, where you’ll get your kayak or paddleboard water-ready and set up your chair in our open-air “art studio.”
Once we’re ready, we’ll paddle upstream as a group for about 45 minutes. Along the way, we’ll take time to observe and photograph the natural beauty and rich history of the river—letting our surroundings inspire our creativity.
After returning to the dock and taking a short break, we’ll gather in our outdoor studio space to share reflections, ideas, and images from the paddle. Then the painting begins! Using a reusable Altoid tin palette and acrylic paints, you’ll create a mini masterpiece on canvas. Your instructors and local artists, Jennifer Manfre and Kylie Jackson, will guide you through sketching, color mixing, and capturing your river-inspired vision.
All painting materials are provided, and you'll leave with both your artwork and your custom palette. Additional class details and preparation notes will be sent to participants by the instructors after registration.
No prior art experience needed—just a love of the outdoors and a creative spirit!
Please note: Participants must bring their own kayak or paddleboard, paddle, and U.S. Coast Guard-approved life vest. This is not a skills-based paddling class; basic paddling proficiency is required.
