April 9th: Time and Location determined nearer the event
This is where preparation converts to performance. Join us on the water with the Falmouth Flats Fly Fishing Club to apply your flies, rigs, and techniques in real time - reading water, adjusting presentations, and fishing the shad run with intent. Proceeds benefit FFFF’s work with Project Healing Waters, ensuring every cast delivers impact beyond the river.
This is an on-the-water experience and has some gear requirements:
Chest Waders and Boots
Rod and reel (6-8 weight range)
Floating, Intermediate or Sink Tip Lines
0-2x Leaders or 2-4feet of 12–16-pound line on Sink Tip
Shad flies in bright colors, darts, spoons, or small baitfish patterns like Kreelex, clouser minnows, deceivers
Optional: stripping basket
You will also need a freshwater fishing license prior to this event: Virginia Hunt & Fish Licenses | Go Outdoors Virginia
*Consider joining Session 2 if you have questions about this gear list. We will be in the Fredericksburg area at an access point along the Rappahannock River. The exact location will be determined closer to the event as we assess water levels and participant counts.
