Did you buy the best ultralight gear with the intention to thru-hike the AT and never got around to it? Did you outgrow your current pack or jacket but it’s still in great shape? Are you ready for a gear upgrade and need a little cash to help you out? All perfectly great reasons to bring your lightly used and loved gear to River Rock Outfitter. Our gear experts will evaluate the condition of the gear and assess its value. With your help we will determine a price that will make your wallet and our cash register happy!
Let's Get STarted
We’re excited to help keep your gear in the WILD! Please read the following policies to understand how our consignment process works.
Step 1: Gear Drop-Off & Intake
We accept consignment gear during regular shop hours. Some items may require full assembly for quality control—please allow time to assist our staff with this process. Once we confirm your item is a good fit for our shop, you'll sign a contract agreeing to the terms outlined in this policy.
Step 2: Pricing Process
We price your item(s) based on experience with similar items in similar condition. We prioritize pricing based on seasonality and current demand. Pricing may take up to 30 days, depending on
the volume of items awaiting evaluation. Before your item is placed on the sales floor, we’ll notify you of the price. At that time, you may approve the price or choose to retrieve your item. You may agree to move forward with the pricing we suggest without any pricing confirmation; however, if you require pricing confirmation then you must respond within 5 days of the e-mail, or your items will be packaged and returned to you. Items not picked up within 15 days of notification will be automatically donated to a local non-profit.
Step 3: Merchandising & Selling
Once accepted, we’ll create or update your customer account. Your item(s) will be tagged and merchandised. Our team will work hard to sell your gear to the right person!
Step 4: Sale Timeline & Item Status
If your item sells, we’ll notify you via email. If it doesn’t sell after 90 days, we may reduce the price by up to 30% or return the item. After 120 days, you'll have the option to pick up the item or donate it to charity. Items not picked up within 15 days of notification will be automatically donated to a local non-profit.
Pricing Guidelines
Used items are typically priced 30–50% below retail. New items must be priced at least 20% below retail—though we recommend 30% to support quicker sales.
Price Adjustments
You may request a price change after 30 days. Please allow up to 5 business days for processing. All requests must be submitted via email to: Reboot@riverrockoutfitter.com
Payment Options
• Receive 60% of the sale price in store credit
• Or receive 40% of the sale price via check
Store credit is saved to your loyalty account and can be used at any time. A 21-day waiting period applies to all payouts to accommodate potential returns. You’ll receive an email once your item is sold and your payment is available.
Donation Policy
After 120 days, you may choose to donate unsold items to a local non-profit. If you do not wish to donate, please pick up your items within 15 days of notification. Donations are made to charitable organizations that support local community needs.
Follow-Up & Record Keeping
The goal of our consignment program, Re-Boot, is to keep quality gear in circulation—not to serve as a business management tool for consignors. We are not able to provide itemized records of consigned, sold, returned, or donated items beyond the standard email notifications outlined in this policy. It is the consignor’s responsibility to maintain their own records.
For any questions or concerns, please contact the Re-Boot lead at:
Reboot@riverrockoutfitter.com
If the consignor relationship becomes overly burdensome, River Rock reserves the right to terminate the agreement. In such cases, unsold items will be returned on a timeline determined by
store leadership.
Ownership
By consigning, you confirm that you are the legal owner of all items. Any consignor found to have submitted stolen items will have their account terminated and legal action may be pursued.
Loss & Damage
River Rock Outfitter is not responsible for damage incurred while items are on consignment. If an item is stolen, a payout may be issued based on the lowest listed price, minus our commission, after 14 days.
Gear Standards
We only accept items that are:
• Clean and sanitary
• In good working conditions
• On our list of acceptable items
Please ensure your items are cleaned and fully functional before dropping them off.
