Product Description

The River Kayak Trip Leader Course is designed to provide training for those taking day trips on the river.  This course is appropriate for camp leaders, scout leaders, fishermen, or anyone who spends time on the river.


Instruction: $125.00 per person

To rent gear for the duration of the course: $30 (kayak, paddle, and PFD)

Kayak Day Trip Leader Assessment

Level 2 Kayak Skill Assessment

What: This course will prepare you by giving you the tools to handle situations that may arise on the water. Participants who succeed receive a card and certificate from the ACA for trip leading and an assessment of skills in a kayak.  This course is NOT a beginning paddling course.  Each participant must have spent time in boats and have good boat control.

This course focuses on:

  • Kayak Handling (strokes and maneuvers)
  • Prevention and Planning
  • Safety and Rescue

Who Should Take this Course?

  • ​Camps offering programs on lakes or rivers;
  • Parks and Recreation Department’s Program Staff or Trip Leaders;
  • Physical Education Programs wishing to teach paddling as a life-time sport;
  • College Outdoor Program leaders or club volunteers;
  • Current Certified Instructors needing updates;
  • Girl Scout and Boy Scout leaders wishing to lead trips

Like all ACA-paddling courses they will always benefit anyone who is interested in improving their skills!

Who is the Instructor?

If you want to be the best then you must be trained by the best! We are excited to have Ben Morton, owner of Precision Paddlesports, teach this course. Ben, awarded by ACA for his excellence in paddling instruction, has years of experience in nearly every paddling discipline.

Where: River Rock Outfitter, 915 Sophia Street, Downtown Fredericksburg.

Why: This certification will add credibility to yourself as well as provide official documentation of your skills and experience for your employer, insurance carrier, council, or resume.

How: Bring your own gear (kayak, paddle, and PFD) or rent from River Rock Outfitter. All you need to do is successfully complete the 2-day course and assessment. In order to receive official credentialing documentation you must be an ACA member.
