We are excited to be headed to Nepal in October and are trusting our trip to an experienced Sherpa family. We were first introduced to Ongyel Sherpa who sales US Sherpa products to specialty outdoor stores in the US. The goods are authentic Nepalese, warm yak wool, and colorful. Our favorite products are the prayer flags which are quintessential Nepal.

Ongyel’s journey to the United States began after meeting American doctor Geoff Tabin (co-director of the Himalayan Cataract Project & Everest climber) in 1998 in Nepal. Ongyel’s uncle Nima Tashi was a Sherpa guide on Dr. Tabin’s Mt. Everest expedition that brought the duo to the summit for the first time in 1988 along with the first American woman to achieve this goal. With the help and sponsorship from Dr. Geoff Tabin, Ongyel was able to fulfill his dream of coming to the United States. Ongyel lived with Dr. Tabin’s family for close to five years in Burlington, Vermont. During this time, Sherpa started to connect with the Himalayan Cataract Project and Sherpa and his family in Nepal would provide housing, food, trekking and other travel services to their clients: doctors and medical students.
